Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Artist: Jamie XX vs Radiohead
Track: Bloom (Jamie XX Remix Pt. 3)
Album: Not quite on the TKOL RMX 1234567
This didn’t quite make it on to the above album, but it’s interesting in that it’s house. It’s Jamie XX (house?). And I like it. And I don’t really like House.
From the Vault:
I’m starting a new, if possibly sporadic section pulling out some of my favourites from times past, so excuse me a little bit of an indulgence.
I’m going to pull them out at a whim, but they’ll all be tracks I’ve come back to again and again and that have stood the test of time… So should be worth it. For me if not for you.
First track is by Canadians: A Silver Mt Zion (aka Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band)
Just love the kid at the start and I’ve never quite been able to get enough of Godspeed You Black Emperor! so spinoff’s have always been welcome.
Track: Built Then Burnt (Hurrah! Hurrah!)
Album: Born Into Trouble As The Sparks Fly Upward
Label: Constellation Records
Year: 2001
CST018: Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band Born Into Trouble As The Sparks Fly Upward (2001)
Artist: Kuedo
Track: Scissors
Album: Severen
Label: Planet Mu, October 2011
Artist: Lana Del Rey / Balam Acab
Track: Video Games (Balam Acab Remix)
Lana Del Ray is a bit out of the box and way too pretty for me to take her seriously… until Balam Acab come fuck it up a bit… and voila! it works.

Track: Palace Chalice
Album: Planet High School
Label: Ghostly International
slated for release on Feb 12… 2012 (fark, can’t believe it’s almost 2012)
Artist: CANT
Track: Too Late, Too Far (Radio Edit)
Album: Dreams Come True
Warp: Sept, 2011
CANT released one of my favourite songs of the year thus far with Answer, and this has a similar vibe. I really dig the off kilter woozy feel of his music that progresses into something more beat driven. CANT is the side project of Chris Taylor from Grizzly Bear (which is pretty interesting in itself, considering Grizzly Bear’s sound) with Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes.
Artist: Sorrow
Track: Siren’s Echo
Album: -
Track: -
I’m heading away from dubstep something heavy but I still have a lot of respect and admiration from the ambient dubstep thing that has been going on since burial. One of the finest purveyors recently of what I’ve seen (accurately) labelled Burialstep is Sorrow. He just does that sound very well and considering Burial’s minimal output it’s good to hear what might have been.
Thanks to Hazlenutcream for the below post, I went to check out the music from it, from New York based The Golden Filter. Some really beautiful stuff… Atmospheric, Filmic, Progressive. Really lovely and very interesting…
Artist: The Golden Filter
Track: Shake
Album: Syndromes
Label: Brille Records, October 10th 2011
I’ve been listening to this track for a while, and I keep deliberating on whether to post it or not. The thing is I keep on coming back to how lovely it is. And everything I didn’t like about it is everything I love about it now.
