Artist: Jacaszek

Track: Dare-Gale

From the upcoming release on Ghostly International - Glimmer

This is the first cut from the December release from Polish born producer Jacaszek, and if you’re a fan of Ben Frost or Tim Hecker it’s worth a listen.

Jacaszek’s latest album, Glimmer, is marked by a noticeable tug between melancholy and beauty, like it’s hovering in some gaseous grey area between both, at once both insular and extroverted. “I tried again to create some fragile beauty glimmering behind the veil of reality,” he says. “I built a kind of curtain out of dirts and fuzzes, and used pure sound of clarinet and harpsichord playing beautiful melodies as a contrast to its harshness.” This winking, push-and-pull tension runs deep and constant throughout the 40-odd-minute journey to the end.

Have to say I’m intrigued. Very much looking forward to the full length album which you can hear a preview of on the link above. Quite worth listening through to the end if you’re into ambient / electronic with a post rock twist. Has quite a beautiful build.

Artist: Rafael Anton Irisarri & Goldmund

Track: Gnossienne No. 1

Composer: Eric Satie

2010

Goldmund and I made a track for an Erik Satie compilation last year (*released on French label Arbouse) at his studio in Portland. Keith (aka Goldmund) played the piano and I did the electronic arrangements and produce the track. My intent was to give the track a “ghost-like” quality, as if the spirit of Erik Satie was playing the melody in a very paced manner at an abandoned, old Château. Enjoy!
Note: This composition was first published in 1893 as part of the “Trois Gnossiennes.” More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnossienne
